History
Education is an essential dimension of service to humanity. The great uplift that Kerala witnessed in the field of education in 19th century is to be attributed to the vision and wisdom of Kuriakose Elaias Chavara, the founder of the congregation of mother of Carmel, Kerala (C.M.C).
C.M.C.sisters came to Thiruvambady in 1956. Thiruvambady is a rural area almost 35 km away from Kozhikode city.
Infant Jesus English Medium School, Thiruvambady is established by the sisters of the St.Mary’s province of the congregation of mother of Carmel. At present it is run and managed by the mother provincial of the Carmelite Provincial House Thiruvambady, Kozhikode, 673603.
The school started in 1994, is situated in ward No.3 of Thiruvambady gramapanchayath. It owns five acres of land.
Background
The people of Thiruvambady panchayath, irrespective of caste and creed, approached Mother Seraphia, the Mother Provincial with a request to start an English Medium School in this area, for the nearest English Medium School was 35 km away from here. So mother provincial along with her team of colleagues purchased this piece of land (Survey No.79) and started the construction of the school building. A school committee consisting of five members and many well-wishers was formed. They started functioning as an advisory board to the Mother Provincial and her assistant Sr. Therese Mary and the Provincial team.
The LKG and UKG sections were started in 1992 at the Lisieux Rani Nursery School building under the same management. In June 1994, Std I was started with 32 students and two teachers in the same building and the class was shifted to the new school building-Infant Jesus school building-on 3rd January 1995.
Though the application to sanction government recognition was for starting classes from I to X, sanction was granted only to High School section in 1995, as per order No.G.O. (P) 229/95 G.Edn.dated, 13/6/95. Accordingly Std. VIII was started on 26th July 1995 with 25 students and 7 teachers. Gradually there was steady increase in the number of students every year. Our first batch appeared for S.S.L.C. Examination in March 1998 securing 100% result with nine distinctions.
Since there was no English medium feeding schools nearby we approached the government once again requesting the sanction of the LP, and UP sections and government recognition was granted to the UP section in1996 as per G.O.(P)389/96/G.Edn.dated, 18-11-1996. Our LP has been functioning efficiently since 1994 and permanent government recognition was granted to LP section in 2004, as per 9.0.(P)No.69/2004/G.edn.dt.20-2-2004.
The completed school building was blessed and inaugurated by His Grace Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy, The Bishop of Thamarassery. The school auditorium and the well-furnished Computer Lab were inaugurated on 14-9-1919 by Smt.Lida Jacob IAS, Director of Public Instructions.
